I’m immersing myself in steampunk literature this month, and so far I’ve been amazed at how authors like Cherie Priest combine science and fantasy to craft their worlds. I see how fans become addicted to these stories. We can be inventors and dreamers at the same time in a steampunk universe, with fantastical elements like zombies, and fledgling technologies like steam-powered machines. It’s a perfect playground for the imagination.

Briar and Zeke take turns tumbling from one scrape to the next, and I found it hard to put this one down. I thought the characterizations were particularly good, and their back story was intricate, to say the least. I think most sci-fi or fantasy fans would enjoy this kind of story, and I can certainly vouch that it’s a good introduction to steampunk, as it was for me.
